In his speech as a ranking member of the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana blasted the administration of President Joe Biden, Big Tech and the mainstream media for colluding in their efforts to censor massive amounts of content online.
Johnson, who has been a vocal critic against censorship in the past, noted in his speech that a federal court was able to affirm what he and other government censorship critics have been reporting for a long time about how “the White House, the Department of Justice, the FBI [Federal Bureau of Investigation], among other agencies, threatened and coerced the social media platforms to censor and suppress disfavored viewpoints and conservatives’ social media posts online.” (Related: CNN correspondent ADMITS Biden “regularly” asks social media companies to act as SPEECH POLICE and censor content.)
Later on during the select subcommittee’s hearing, Johnson further noted that FBI Supervisory Special Agent Elvis Chan, who is one of the agents in charge of the bureau’s online censorship program, testified under oath that, whenever the FBI asked social media platforms to censor certain posts or other types of content “that they said was disfavored speech,” the Big Tech companies agreed to government demands and took down about 50 percent of the targeted content.
Johnson’s speech referenced the recent ruling by the United States District Court Judge for the Western District of Louisiana Terry A. Doughty that prevents officials within the administration from contacting social media sites.
This ruling comes after the court definitively proved that federal government officials under the Biden administration targeted and suppressed “millions of protected free speech postings by American citizens.”
“It is quite telling that each example or category of suppressed speech [brought as evidence in the case] was conservative in nature,” wrote Doughty in his ruling. “This targeted suppression of conservative ideas is a perfect example of viewpoint discrimination of political speech. American citizens have the right to engage in free debate about the significant issues affecting the country.”
In the hearing with the select subcommittee, Johnson made sure to point out that the mainstream media is attempting to suppress the ability of people in the United States to learn about this “landmark lawsuit against the federal government.”
“Let’s talk facts: The American people are not aware of the magnitude of this case and its profound implications because most of the mainstream media is in on it too and they’re trying to bury the story,” said Johnson. He added that this “blatant censorship” is because the attorneys general of Louisiana and Missouri brought forward a case “that went after the blatant censorship of the Biden White House.”
Doughty would later reject a request from the Justice Department to put a pause on the order.
